Summary: I am Legend is about a scientist named Dr. Robert Neville, who in the year 2009 helped find a vaccine (cure) for cancer.  This treatment was then used widely by thousands of people.  But soon the people treated with the vaccine fell ill and became blood-thirsty Dark Seekers.  They could no i_am_legend2.jpgi_am_legend2.jpglonger survive in the sunlight and were only able to come out at night.  By the end of the year 2009, the virus had become airborne and infected most of the world’s population.  By 2012, the world was taken back by nature ai_am_legend2.jpgnd the Dark Seekers roamed at night.   Dr. Robert Neville is now trying to find a cure with his immune blood, but has so far failed at every attempt.  He lives mostly off what he has stored in his home and uses multiple generators to power it.  During the day, he searches for food and resources, grabs a few movies to watch, and waits for survivors to find him at the Pier.  By night, he stakes out in his house and waits until morning for the Dark Seekers to go back into hiding.

Review:  I thought this was an excellent movie.  The original, The Last Man on Earth, was not nearly as good as this one, but it’s still an interesting watch.  This movie has its action packed moments while evening out with very emotionally driven scenes.  I was very surprised by Will Smith’s ability to carry a solo role, not that I ever denied he couldn’t carry one.  In terms of the scares, I would compare a few to the movie JAWS.  I draw this comparison because a few times it’s what you don’t see that scares you, while most of the times it’s the audio scares that get you.  For some, the movie might get confusing because of its back and forth style.  The movie travels to Neville’s past a few times to draw out what happened during the outbreak of the virus, and how he comes to being stuck in New York City.

Overall, I thought the scares were great, the action was excellent and I couldn’t ask for much more in a movie.  I give this a 9/10.
