POEM: My Garden

I awake in the morning and look outside,

Staring across the horizon, far and wide.

Rain falls relentlessly from the heavens above,

Pouring my garden with the shower of love.

I watch it through my transparent window,

Always wondering what it will bestow.

I put on my boots and enter the kingdom -

The kingdom of nature, the garden of freedom.

Rain subsides and earthly scent is present.

Robins feast on worms until they are content.

Ferocious and irritating is the insect

Guarding the flowers it has sworn to protect.

I watch the flowers as they blossom

So gracious and beautiful that I can’t fathom.

Where is the sun to brighten our way

On this dark and miserable day?

Temperature drops, sending shivers down my spine.

My dog warns of trouble with a slow and painful whine.

A layer of fog rolls in from the west.

All nature disappears, like an unwelcomed guest.
